Jill Kempson (born 1961, Melbourne) honed her painting techniques at the RMIT (Melbourne), Ecole des Beaux-Arts (Paris), Musee du Louvre (Paris), and the Limbourg Restoration Centre (Maastricht, Netherlands). She has held regular solo exhibitions since the late 1980s in Perth (mainly with the prestigious Galerie Dusseldorf), London (Rebecca Hossack Gallery), Canberra, and Melbourne. A survey exhibitions of her works, ‘Reflections’, took place at the Fremantle Arts Centre in 1999.
Jill’s works were included in curated group exhibitions at the Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery (University of Western Australia, 1995), Art Gallery of Western Australia (1995), Fremantle Arts Centre (2006), and Murdoch University Art Collection (2009 and 2025). She was a finalist in a number of art award and art prizes, including the Rottnest Foundation Art Prize (Winner, Janet Holmes a Court Gallery, Perth, 2019), Redlands Westpac Art Prize (1996, 1998), Mosman Art Prize (1997), City of Albany Art Prize (2008), Tattersalls Club Landscape Art Prize (invitational, 2018), and Wyndham Art Prize (2019).
Jill’s works are held in the Artbank, Art Gallery of Western Australia, University of Western Australia, Murdoch University, Edith Cowan University, Collection of the City of Antibes (France), and other public, corporate, and private art collection in Australia and abroad. A monograph on her works, ‘Jill Kempson’s Oeuvre: Landscape in Perspective’, was published by Patrick Le Chanu in 2010.
