Andrew Bonneau Australian, b. 1981

Born in Tasmania in 1981, Andrew Bonneau currently resides and practises his art in Cairns, Queensland. After completing his studies at the National Art School in 2003, he further honed his skills at the Charlie Sheard Studio School and the Julian Ashton Art School. His pursuit of classical drawing and painting techniques led him to the Grand Central Academy of New York, renowned for its commitment to the classical and traditional arts education since its establishment in 2006.

Bonneau's body of work predominantly comprises portraits, figure studies, and still life paintings, all deeply rooted in a reflection of  a deep sensitivity to the forms of nature and subtlety of light, embodying many of the qualities of the European realist tradition. His artistic prowess has garnered recognition through selection for prestigious exhibitions such as the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize, the Adelaide Perry Drawing Prize, the Percival Portrait Painting Prize, the Shirley Hannan National Portrait Award, and notably, the Archibald Prize in 2017. Additionally, he has been named a finalist thrice for the esteemed AME Bale Travelling Art Scholarship.

In 2019, Bonneau was granted the William Fletcher Foundation Rome Residency, affording him the opportunity to spend three months at the British School in Rome. His work has been showcased in numerous group and solo exhibitions across Australia and internationally. Today, his art finds a home in public and private collections worldwide, solidifying his place in the contemporary art scene.
