Andrew Bonneau is an artist whose work reflects a deep sensitivity to the forms of nature and the subtlety of light, embodying many of the qualities of the European realist tradition.
Andrew Bonneau (b. 1981) is an artist whose work reflects a deep sensitivity to the forms of nature and the subtlety of light, embodying many of the qualities of the European realist tradition.Andrew earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts at The National Art School in Sydney and later studied at both The Charlie Sheard Studio School and the Julian Ashton Art School.To connect more fully to the disciplines of traditional drawing and painting, he studied for three years under Jacob Collins at the Grand Central Academy of Art in New York. His subject matter ranges from portraits, figures, still life and landscapes, and his work is characterised by the unique perception and delicacy he brings to each of these genres.

Andrew BONNEAU (born 1981, Devonport, TAS)
Painter, draughtsman, and teacher, painter of portraits, figure studies, landscapes, and still lifes, Andrew Bonneau studied in Sydney at the National Art School and Julian Ashton Art School, as well as privately under the tutelage of Charlie Sheard. He honed his craft and perfected his skills at the Grand Central Academy of Art in New York and the British Academy in Rome.
Andrew has held regular solo exhibitions since 2010s, mainly in Brisbane and Melbourne, and in 2016 his recent drawings and paintings were surveyed at the Cairns Regional Gallery, QLD. His works were included in numerous curated group exhibitions, including at the National Art School, Sydney (2001-3), Grand Central Academy, New York (2012), Cairns Regional Gallery (2015, 2018, 2019) and the National Portrait Gallery, Canberra (2018).
He was a subject of a feature documentary by Jonathan Myles-Lea, and his latest body of work is profiled in a monograph catalogue with an essay by Dr Christopher Allen, art historian and Head Art Critic for The Australian.
He was a finalist in the AME Bale Travelling Scholarship exhibition (2012, 2014, 2020), Moran Portrait Prize (2013, 2015), the Archibald Prize (2017), and other prestigious portraiture and still life prizes. His works have been acquired by the National Portrait Gallery, Canberra, State Library of New South Wales, as well as tertiary, corporate and private collections across Australia and abroad.
The artist currently lives and works in Mittagong, NSW.
