Reinhold Inkamala was born in Alice Springs in 1974. As the great-nephew of the celebrated Australian Indigenous artist Albert Namatjira, Inkamala inherited the stylistic concerns of the Hermannsburg School tradition, a movement that blends Western art techniques with Aboriginal cultural storytelling.

Mount Sonder, or Rwetyepme, is a recurring subject in Inkamala's oeuvre. To the Arrernte people, the mountain symbolises a woman lying down or pregnant, often referred to as the "Sleeping Woman" or "Pregnant Lady". This image, deeply embedded in the cultural landscape of the Central Desert, functions as a powerful symbol of creation and repose. Here the physical landmark, hints at the richness pregnant with meaning and storytelling juxtaposed with western artistic techniques and styles; drawing out the spiritual anchor that connects dreamtime and storytelling . Through his work, Inkamala uncovers a richness and gravidity within the relationship between place and ancestral stories.
