Bettina Willner x Fondazione Officine Saffi

Congratulations to Bettina Willner for her selection as a finalist for the 5th edition of the Officine Saffi Award.

Officine Saffi Award aims at presenting the best works by artists, makers, artisans and designers engaged in contemporary ceramic creation. Officine Saffi Award works proactively to encourage the construction of new connections between artists, institutions and audiences, in a perspective of dialogue and intercultural exchange.

The Award’s mission is to stimulate the creation of meaningful links between subject areas, practices, geographical settings and generations in order to broaden and enrich the ceramics discourse by disseminating its knowledge.

For the 5th edition applicants were invited to focus on the concepts intrinsic to “(un)Known Territories,” and so on the richness of meanings that can be found in an open definition of the term “territory”: physical matter, sedimented and in constant transformation; place of discovery; subject and object of knowledge in the making; a narrative device that binds personal and collective stories, places and cultures.

The shortlisted works will be presented in a curated group exhibition that will open in Milan, May 2024, at Fondazione Officine Saffi new venue.

Congratulations to Joshua Miels for winning The 2023 Bluethumb Art Prize for Portraiture

Congratulations to Joshua Miels on winning The 2023 Bluethumb Art Prize for Portraiture, for his work ‘Galvanize’ (2023).

A selection of recent works by Miels will be present in our forthcoming exhibition ‘Lennox St. Summer’ from 6th December until 27 January.

A few words from Joshua on the occasion -

“Winning the Bluethumb Art Prize category for portraiture is a very special moment,” said Joshua. “For me, this prize is about the recognition for the years spent alone in the studio working, always trying to better myself as an artist. There are times where I’ve doubted myself and my relevance in the art world. A moment like this reinforces that I do belong and need to keep going."

Eolo Paul Bottaro at Essendon Fields

Essendon fields will soon be home to a new major public artwork commission by Eolo Paul Bottaro. The large bronze sculpture will feature Daphne as a Greek dryad, or tree spirit, and daughter of Peneus, the Greek river god. Interestingly Bottaro interprets this myth to refocus on the relationship between father and daughter; celebrating Daphne’s transformation into Mother Nature, rising from water.
