Adnate Australian, b. 1984
This work is unique in his oeuvre. Primarily known as a portrait artist, this piece gives voice to the central themes of his practice: land, place, and the people who inhabit them. When you look into the eyes of an adnate portrait, you see the landscape reflected outward, reaching us. This abstract, expressionist-influenced work carefully balances the line between abstraction and representation, with its Rothko-like composition evoking the spiritual connection between the subject, environment and viewer.
