The title of the painting refers to the ancient symbol of Sicily, the three-legged woman, representing the three promontories of Sicily: Pelorus, Passero, and Lilibeo. In the painting, it is referenced by the postcard–which, however, represents a variation on Boticelli’s Birth of Venus, representing Trinacria as Siamese twins with two bodies and three legs. It is possible that the red three-tiered glass vase is a reference to Italian mid-century glassware. Three red Anthuriums, also known as flamingo flowers, protrude from the vase. A small skull is placed on the lower left of the painting.
