On the 20 June 1880, thirty four police officers surrounded the Glenrowan Inn and engaged in a gun battle with the Kelly Gang who had all dressed in their home-made armour. The Inn was set on fire by the police. The battle left Dan Kelly, Joe Byrne, and Steve Hart dead. Ned was taken alive suffering serious injuries and taken to Melbourne to face jail.
