Tavar Zawacki is an American sculptor and painter known for his transformative work across multiple mediums. From 1996 to 2016, Zawacki signed all his creations under the pseudonym ABOVE, through which he became a renowned figure in the street art scene. His iconic ABOVE arrow was first conceived in Paris, and he went on to produce artwork in over 100 cities across 50 countries worldwide. In 2017, Zawacki transitioned away from his street art persona to focus on his gallery practice, signing all new works with his birth name.
Zawacki's art blends elements of minimalism, Color Field painting, hard-edge painting, and trompe l’oeil, creating a distinctive visual language. His work has been showcased in major international exhibitions in cities such as New York, Berlin, San Francisco, Zürich, Sydney, Milan, and Paris. In 2019, Zawacki was commissioned by the Buffalo AKG Art Museum in New York to create the largest public mural of his career, further solidifying his place in the contemporary art world.
