Jackie Wirramanda

Jackie Wirramanda is a multi-clan Indigenous artist from the Wergaia, Djadja Wurrung, and Ngarrindjeri people. Her work is focused on preserving the culture and tradition of her people expressed though her interpretation of connection to country and what it means to her. Using a colour palette with bursts of vibrant colour and soft pastels blended with her intricate yet bold designs it has the power to capture one's imagination in a unique and profound way. The boldness of the design draws the eye towards the piece, while intricate details provide a sense of texture and depth that keep the viewer engaged. The striking use of vibrant colours creates an emotional pull through the use of intense hues, complemented by the delicate blend of pastels that adds to the overall atmosphere and speaks to the complexities that exist in life. Through this combination, one can experience an artistic journey, transported to another place, time, or state of mind that only the most effective art can achieve. Specializing in acrylic on linen paintings, Wirramanda creates images that portray stories of connection to country and culture both tangible and intangible.

Dreaming stories specific to the Country of which She walks upon, her paintings retain knowledge and dreaming connection as a reminder of its importance to her and her children. Keeping a strong understanding and connection to country and culture to ensure it is passed to the next generation as it has been done for thousands of generations before her. In addition to her paintings, Wirramanda is also known for her handcrafted jewelry. Using a range of materials such as shells, beads, and feathers, she creates intricately designed earrings that incorporate traditional motifs and techniques with a modern flair. Each piece is meticulously hand painted and crafted, ensuring that no two are exactly alike. With a passion for her craft and a deep respect for her cultural heritage, Wirramanda has gained a following among art collectors and enthusiasts alike. Her work has been featured in gallery exhibitions and private collections throughout Australia and around the world. Through her creative output, Wirramanda hopes to not only showcase the beauty of her culture but to also inspire future generations to preserve and celebrate the traditions of Indigenous Australians.
