Bruno Leti Italian Australian, b. 1941

The evolution from the ‘real’ to the ‘abstract’ oscillate between feeling and fact, the poetic and the spiritual. Whether scanning country or painting a still life, it is the personal experience - the journey that matters to him.

Bruno Leti lives and works in Melbourne, Australia. Born in Italy, the artist  emigrated to Australia with his family as a child in 1952. Taking art history studies at the University of Melbourne as well as a course at the Melbourne Teachers’ College, Bruno was primed for a career which would weave education, art practice and workshops for printmakers.

Drawing underpins most of Bruno Leti’s art making. Often made as a pre-narrative sketch to a final drawing. Far from being a definitive interpretation; this opens up potential for infinite points of view. The medium and size - like his paintings - vary from charcoal, ink, brush and pastel on multiple surfaces, and range from small to large scale.

Bruno Leti's experience of traversing the landscape is the catalyst that inspires his painted works, which are created using diverse media including, oil, synthetic polymer paint, canvas, paper and wood. The evolution from the ‘real’ to the ‘abstract’ oscillate between feeling and fact, the poetic and the spiritual. Whether scanning country or painting a still life, it is the personal experience - the journey that matters to him.

His disciplines are painting, drawing, printmaking, photography and book arts. He is represented in national, state and regional galleries, as well as university collections across Australia.
