White’s commitment to abstraction is above all a moral activity, a commitment he shares with the original exponents of Abstract Expressionism who paved the way for a new kind of political power based on the denial of authority. He has employed his art as a tool for closer listening and closer looking, with which to magnify the voices of the unrepresented, the marginalised and those dispossessed by war and abuses of power. The role of the artist activist is vital in the current global climate. In these troubled times,
White’s work encourages us to consider the social responsibility of the artist; to use art as a seed for thought; to view it as a vantage point from which to scrutinise global power structures and activate democracy through vigilance and inquiry.

The artistic practice of Anthony White, revolves around the notion of reclaiming the act of dissent through the production of cultural objects. His research is situated at the intersection of several fields in the social space including, politics, human rights, and postcolonialism. White’s practice is centered around concepts of design and its history as a form of social and political expression. He works with painting, drawing, collage, and printmaking. The references and the materials he uses testify to his predisposition for modernist aesthetics. Through this practice, he tackles relevant questions to our time, to encourage emancipation and new ways of thinking.
